Feed Sack Aprons

Look what I have been up to lately!

  I had these wonderful old feed sacks that I have had for close to twenty years. 

 They were basically new and had never been used before. 

 It was really a challenge to try to figure out what to do with each one. 

I have the most of the flower seed sacks.  I even reserved five for later use. 

First I washed and pressed them.  They shrank a little and faded a little.

Next I ripped them across the edges to even them up.  I am a great fan of ripping.  It straightens the fabric and usually gives you a wonderful straight edge to work with.  Depending on where the design lay, I then ripped enough off the edges to make sashes and sometimes waist bands.  Of course, there are fabrics that just won't rip.

I used reproduction Civil War fabrics for most of the pockets.  Pricey, but worth it!

(At ten dollars a yard, these I did not rip.  I cut them verrrrry carefully.)

I would be hard pressed to choose just one favorite.  I like them all for different reasons.

But, I do love the flour sack aprons.

They have a ticking waistband and a ticking pocket.

So cute.

I have twelve half aprons that are gathered at the waist with great feed sack sashes.

I wish you could see them all.

They are just too cute!!

I even have three great full aprons that would make great barbecue aprons for dad!!!

Well, got to go, I have 48 tomato pincushions waiting for me. 

They are turning out great.  I almost have them finished.
